The Unappealing $1000 Pizza

A restaurant in New York City is charging $1000 for a pizza. This pizza has various types of expensive caviars, lobster, and crème fresh. Each slice of pizza is worth about $125 according to the article. The owner of the restaurant states that this pizza is expensive but some people are able to afford it.

The most shocking thing about this article is, in my opinion, the frivolousness of the pizza. There are so many people who would love to be able to eat a $1 slice of pizza let alone eat at all. If a person has the money to buy a one thousand dollar pizza why not buy a regular slice of pizza and give the money to those less fortunate. The act of buying something so frivolous seems as if it is a way to show the world their status and snobbery. They just want to prove to people that they are capable of purchasing such an expensive and extravagant food that nobody else could afford. The people that the restaurant owner says can afford these luxuries should still not indulge in those luxuries. This relates to everything that the rich and privileged deem worthy to throw their money into. Someone like Donald Trump will put millions of dollars into doing something like gold-plating a toilet bowl when he could donate that money to a charity or help people build homes. I find the pointlessness of spending this money idiotic.

The sheer stupidity of somebody spending that much money on a slice of pizza is also shocking. At the end it is still just a piece of pizza that you can purchase everywhere else for a few dollars. People should not waste their money on luxuries that are truly pointless. The people who are able to purchase this pizza are obviously wealthy individuals. I would honestly like to know how a person is able to stay wealthy while they are spending money on $1000 pizza. As the old saying states, "a fool and his money are soon parted."

Meet the $1000 pizza… :

Only in New York...and maybe Paris. I am amazed that places like that restaurant stay in business. Like you said, it makes no difference what toppings are on it because it is still just pizza- no matter how you slice it. No pun intended. I couldn't agree more that no matter how much money you have it is foolish and selfish to waste it.

It is pretty ridiculous that a person would spend a thousand dollars on a slice of pizza. I believe if someone spent that much on pizza, it would be for the sheer purpose of showing wealth. Middle and lower class persons would have a lot of trouble accepting this. There are much better and important things to do with $1000.
One of your statements contradicts another. At the beginning of the article you say the pizza is worth $125 and the end you say, "at the end it is still just a piece of pizza that you can purchase everywhere else for a few dollars." This does not make sense.
Overall, the topic you chose made an interesting read.

I completly agree with your article and I find it pointless for anybody to spend that much money on any type of food. These people could be putting their money to a good cause like the hurricane Katrina foundation in New Orleans or help people in Africa with education and food but they rather waste it on foolish things. If they wanted to eat that type of pizza so bad they could probably make it themselves for a small fraction of the cost. I found this article very interesting not because their was a pizza that costed $1000 but that there was people actually paying for it.

This goes to show that society is so caught up with themselves and wealth. Everything we see today is how to get rich fast or how money makes people happy. I cannot see how spending 1000 dollars on a pizza can make you happy. Think of all that you could do with that money. Don't they see all those people starving or living out on the streets freezing to death. With that money they spent they could have fed 100 people. Little do they know that " everybody is one paycheck away from being homeless." That could very well be them one day. We don't know what life has in store for us.

With that money they spent they could have fed 100 people.

Who is to say they didn't? They spend a $1000 on a pizza which was prepared by people who were paid to prepare it who in turn paid people to acquire the ingredients who in turned paid people to transport the ingredients who.........etc. etc. etc.

While I agree that spending $1000 on a pizza is a waste of money - it is theirs spend. Just because the money is going to something frivolous doesn't mean it isn't going to people who don't need it.

While it is true that it is their money to spend, I was trying to say that they might want to spend their money on something that is more helpful to those in need instead of flaunting their wealth by buying something the average consumer could never afford. The person who purchases the expensive pizza could have spent a small fraction of the money and gave the rest to people who have no food whatsoever. Also, in most cases, the amount of money you pay for food is usually much more expensive than the actual ingredients costs in order for the company, in this case a restaurant, to make a decent profit. There probably was a good chance that the money from the $1000 pizza did trickle down to the people who provided the ingredients and labor but I have a strong feeling it was merely a fraction of what the business made.

And who makes up the business? People. So what is wrong with money going to them? What makes someone providing a service and product more or less worthy than anyone else.

Again I agree there are a thousand different ways could spend their money from giving it away, to investing it, to buying who knows how many other items benefiting who know how many other people.

Worrying about how others spend their money is a pointless and unappealing exercise. Better to not worry about what others have or do with their resources and instead focus on what you have and do with your own resources.

Envy is ugly in all forms. People would better being happy with who they are and focusing on what they can do to improve themselves instead of others.

I can't imagine spending that much money on food. That is more than a months worth of groceries! What if you didn't even like the pizza? If I was spending that much on pizza I would feel like the restaurant should be using the proceeds for a good cause. I don't think the pizza would be very good anyway because it has all these fancy caviers on it. It's not just any kind of pizza. It doesn't sound good at all to me. I think the person buying the pizza must just like to feel like they are eating the best of the best foods out there. They need the pizza to support their ego of feeling rich.

Rock on! I believe that these rich people never had the opportunity to be taught the value of money. For someone who money is as plentiful as water, it would be hard not feel what it is like to need. Yes, these give to charities but you have to wonder what their motives are. Are they giving to charities just to say they did? Your argument was dead on.

I don't even care for $12 pizza. Can't say I would care for it at any price.

              What a waste.
